Hello! My name is Elias Stein. I made BasketballArt.net to combine two of my biggest passions: basketball and art. 

I started working as a freelance illustrator in 2013. At the time, I needed to build a portfolio website to showcase my work. The only problem was that I didn't have any clients yet. So I had to make up projects. Young writers are often told "write what you know," so that's what I did. I drew what I knew: sports. 

You may not think the Venn diagram of sports fans and art enthusiasts overlaps that much, but you'd be surprised. There's an honorable lineage of notable sports artists over the last century, even if their work isn't hanging in sculpted gold frames on a white gallery wall. And that's part of the purpose of this site as well. To add to the belief that sports art is a respectable category of art. 

My sport of choice is basketball. I grew up in the 90s with the Chicago Bulls and Space Jam. When I wasn't at school, most of my time was spent at the kitchen table drawing or in the driveway shooting hoops. Looking back, it's surprising it's taken me this long to start this project.

I've always made prints, and that's primarily what I'll be selling here, but I'm also going to experiment and see what other products might make sense to put a basketball on.
